Frequently Asked Questions

Do you take insurance or offer a sliding scale?

We are not panelled with private insurance, however your therapist can provide a “superbill” (a formal insurance statement) for you to submit to your insurance company for out of network reimbursement. Your reimbursement depends on your policy, but generally, once you meet your Out of Network deductible, our sessions would be eligible for full reimbursement.

In an effort to make therapy feel accessible to all individuals, all clinicians on our team offer a sliding scale on a financial need basis. Sliding scale services range from $175-90. Please reach out to inquire about sliding scale options if you’d like to work together but fee is a barrier.

What is the total investment/how much will it all cost?

The No Surprises Act requires healthcare professionals, including therapists, to provide good-faith estimates of medical items or services for uninsured (or self-paying) individuals. This is in an effort to help you better understand what you can expect to pay for services. You can ask your healthcare provider for a good-faith estimate before you schedule a service.  For questions or more information about your right to a good-faith estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.

What is your cancellation policy?

Sensoma Psychotherapy has a 48- hour cancellation policy. We ask for full 48 hours notice to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Cancellations with less than 48 hours notice will result in a cancellation fee equal to the full fee of your session. We always try to be flexible- if we are able to reschedule in the same calendar week, we will waive the cancellation-fee. If we do not have the availability, or you are not able to reschedule within the same calendar week, we will charge the full fee.

Sensoma Psychotherapy also has a 3 time cancellation policy- unless predetermined, if you cancel 3 appointments in a row, for legal and ethical reasons we will have to consider your treatment terminated. Your therapist will reach out to you beforehand to explain this policy and to try come up with solutions to barriers to therapy, or to pause therapy if needed.

Life happens! Anything that can reasonably be understood as an emergency is exempt from this policy.

What’s the difference between therapy and coaching?

Both therapy and coaching at Sensoma Psychotherapy are deep, trauma-informed containers for transformative support.

Psychotherapy is offered by a licensed psychotherapist regulated by state regulatory agencies and national ethical guidelines. Psychotherapy is for clinical work that includes assessment, diagnosis, and long-term treatment for symptom reduction. While we don’t love the over-pathologizing of diagnoses, we do know that sometimes having language for symptoms is helpful. Psychotherapy is great for everyone but is essential for people with more severe mental health symptoms, complex or co-occurring diagnoses, complex trauma, or suicidal ideation. This is because psychotherapists can liaison with medical providers, psychiatrists, and crisis support resources as needed. Psychotherapy is only available in the state(s) where the therapist is licensed, and insurance will only reimburse therapy by a licensed therapist in the state where the client resides.

Coaching is relational, values-based, and goal oriented support. Coaching at Sensoma Psychotherapy is rooted in Somatic Experiencing and other somatic based modalities. EMDR & ERP are therapeutic interventions that are not available in coaching services. Coaching is available across the United States in a virtual format. Coaching is not eligible for reimbursement from insurance companies and Coaches are not able to liaison with medical providers in the same capacity as licensed psychotherapists.

How long will therapy or coaching take and how often should I plan on having sessions?

Therapy (and coaching!) looks different for everyone and the duration of therapy depends on your goals. We really hope and encourage that all clients are able to start with weekly sessions for at least 3-4 sessions so that the foundation of a secure, supportive relationship can be built. From there, we trust that the cadence that works best for you will be exactly what you need and are happy to work with you however that looks- whether its biweekly sessions, monthly sessions, or even extra or extended sessions.

We work in a targeted way seeking symptom and pattern resolution at the root. Increasing your nervous system’s regulation and capacity is one of our number one goals. This means that you can expect to feel things moving in each and every session, and we fundamentally don’t believe in overloading you with services.

While we hope this relationship and space can be something you can return to for support across the lifespan when difficult moments, new transitions, or new or returning symptoms emerge, we won't needlessly keep you in therapy forever. Going deep in a targeted way supports most clients to feel like within a year they’ve processed an important part of their lives, have transformed patterns and symptoms that were causing them distress, and have a newfound sense of safety, calm, and confidence within themselves.

Who can I work with?

Sensoma Psychotherapy is a small, growing practice of trauma and somatic specialists. All psychotherapists on the team have specialized training in trauma modalities and receive regular consultation from Maggie. For now, you can learn more about Maggie and Kedri by exploring the about pages on this site. You can book directly with them through their about pages, or we can determine in your consultation what makes the most sense for your needs!

What can I expect during my first therapy session?

Our biggest goal for your first session is that if nothing else, you leave feeling like we really understand you. We’ll settle in, relax, and make sure you feel comfortable!  We’ll be curious together about what’s coming up in your nervous system as we talk through what’s been going on lately, your history, relationships, and all of the things that make you, you. It’s also a space for you to ask your therapist any questions you might have, for us to brainstorm some hopes & goals together, and above all else, for you to feel heard and held.
